In March, I felt a deep sense of anxiety. As a leader, it was not enough for our executive team to be aligned in the AI transformation. We were spending half of our time exploring and debating AI, but I knew this change was hitting everyone in the company. Colleagues who are surrounded by the constant noise of the AI revolution, but are not in those strategic meetings.
One Monday you think a tool is the new standard. By Thursday, it is already old.
This speed feels like an ocean full of big waves. It can be a great chance to surf, or it can be a hit that leaves you gasping for air.
At Qualabs, we realized that in times of extreme change, we cannot give people certainty, but we can give them clarity. This is more than a strategy. It is a Change Management process. We are focused on building a shared understanding and a sense of urgency across the entire organization. To provide that clarity, we organized our transformation into five pillars that serve as our compass.
The 5 Pillars of our AI Journey
1. AI for Engineering Productivity
This pillar has two dimensions. First, AI Assisted Software Engineering, using tools for coding, testing, and documentation to increase productivity without losing code ownership. Second, AI Aware System Design, where we architect systems specifically designed to interact with AI agents and automated workflows.
2. AI in Client Delivery
We are an engineering partner, not a software factory. We integrate AI into our projects responsibly by defining clear models of use that protect intellectual property and ensure compliance with our clients' security and data policies.
3. Security, Compliance & Guardrails
Innovation without limits is a risk. We are establishing explicit guardrails for the use of sensitive data and proprietary code. This includes defining which environments require human in the loop supervision and auditing how AI tools are accessed within our infrastructure.
4. Talent and ways of working
This is the part I am most passionate about. While our biology takes millions of years to evolve, digital shifts happen in months. We have seen how social media created new emotions like FOMO or Cringe, and the AI era will certainly bring its own.
We need to focus on mental health to avoid burnout, ensuring automation does not hurt critical thinking, and supporting our people through the stress of learning so many things at once.
5. Market Positioning & BizDev
We want to convert AI adoption into a strategic advantage for Qualabs and our clients. This means positioning ourselves as a partner for responsible AI transformation and exploring new value offers specifically within the MediaTech ecosystem.
What this means for us
At Qualabs, we do not have all the answers. This framework is just our way of managing change and staying grounded. In just a few weeks, we gained an incredible amount of clarity and order. I realized how fortunate I am to work with such a talented team that can put words to discomfort and turn it into a compass. But I also thought about my colleagues in the ecosystem who might not have that same support right now. Those who are feeling the noise but have not found their North Star yet.
There is a line from the Uruguayan musician Fernando Cabrera that says: "No hay otra forma de llegar que ir". There is no other way to get there than to go. Transformation does not happen by accident. It is built step by step, by people. If we want to reach the long term as an ecosystem, we need to do it together.
