Our October trip to San Francisco wasn’t just about attending events, it was about strengthening connections, celebrating achievements, and looking ahead to the future of video tech. Starting with FOMS 2024, we dived into technical discussions, followed by Demuxed, the event we look forward to every year, a special gathering where innovation meets community. These moments reminded us why collaboration is at the heart of everything we do.
FOMS 2024 once again brought together the video tech community for a full day of discussions, where participants explored some of the most relevant topics shaping the future of the industry.
Among the many insightful sessions, one that stood out for us was led by Casey Occhialini on Common Media Library (CML) & Common Error Codes. It was great to hear our contributions to CML acknowledged throughout the discussion, reinforcing how these efforts are opening new possibilities for growth and future exploration. Will Law also highlighted the collaborative work we've done together on CMCD, which has grown steadily since Summer Camp 2024.
Other key discussions included ad insertion and interstitials, as well as deep dives into Media over QUIC (MoQ) and Web Transport, led by Luke Curley and Will Law, focused on optimizing streaming performance. Alex Zambelli provided sharp insights on Device Media Capabilities Detection and APIs, while Thasso Griebel shared his expertise on C2PA, DRM, and content protection.
A huge congratulations to Walker Griggs and the entire team behind this event for making it a success!

Demuxed 2024, unique for us!
This year’s Demuxed felt especially meaningful! We didn’t just attend; we participated actively with two key demos and celebrated Constanza Dibueno’s technical talk on CMAF HAM. It was thrilling to see our work showcased, sparking conversations and new collaborations.
Talks and demos to which we have contributed!
“Ads and Overlays” - Alex Giladi
In his talk, Alex Giladi delved into the future of server-guided ad insertion (SGAI) and dynamic overlays. SGAI offers a scalable and efficient alternative to SSAI and CSAI, enhancing flexibility without sacrificing resilience. The demo showcased how MPEG-DASH can seamlessly insert overlays ranging from station IDs to critical alerts, into live streams without interruptions. Integrated VAST tracking further enables real-time ad performance analysis.
For this demo, our team collaborated with Alex to develop an interface for seamless insertion of overlays like logos, station IDs, and alerts, using MPEG-DASH. The system ensures smooth operations even under high-traffic conditions, with real-time VAST tracking to monitor ad performance. This scalable solution optimizes live streaming by integrating content updates without interrupting the viewer experience.
It was truly incredible to see our work highlighted on stage, and we couldn’t be prouder of the entire team behind this project: Nicolás Levy, Javier Aramberri Schegel, Ronald Urbina, Fabián Matías Cancela Pallas, Agustina Galbarini, and, of course, a huge thank you to Alex for his amazing partnership throughout the process!

”Creative Monkeys Contemplate Dating” - Will Law
Will Law introduced CMCD v2, the latest iteration of the Common Media Client Data standard, which builds on our collaborative work from Summer Camp 2024. CMCD v2 expands data-sharing capabilities, enabling platforms to share performance metrics across multiple services, including CDNs, content steering services, and analytics providers.
Our role focused on developing the CMCD Analyzer, a tool that visualizes client-side metrics in real time, offering actionable insights for content delivery optimization. Huge thanks to Nicolás Levy, Santiago Otero and the whole team for their dedication to the project from the beginning at Summer Camp! The new version introduces additional metrics, such as buffer starvation duration, media start delay, and prefetching capabilities, allowing platforms to dynamically steer content based on real-time conditions and improve stream stability.

Coti takes the stage: “How to Play DASH on Your HLS Player”
Day two of Demuxed 2024 was truly special as Constanza Dibueno stepped onto the stage for her first-ever talk at the event and what a debut it was! ✨ Her presentation delved into CMAF HAM (Hybrid Adaptive Media), a project born during Summer Camp 2024. This project addresses one of the biggest challenges in broadcasting today interoperability. Broadcasters often need to create multiple stream formats, increasing costs and complexity, and CMAF offers a unified solution compatible with both HLS and DASH protocols.
During her talk, Coti showcased a demo of the CMAF HAM UI, which simplifies the conversion of manifests and playlists between HLS and DASH. She explained how the tool allows broadcasters to input a DASH manifest and convert it into an HLS playlist on the fly, ensuring smooth playback across various devices and platforms. This practical solution improves adaptability, reduces latency, and optimizes buffer management for seamless streaming, even in unpredictable network conditions.
Watching her shine on that stage, overcoming nerves and delivering a talk with confidence and authenticity, was a proud moment for all of us at Qualabs. The feedback and support she received from the community were overwhelming, reinforcing that this is just the beginning of Coti’s journey. We couldn’t be prouder, she truly nailed it!

And as if that wasn’t enough… Summer Camp 2025 is officially announced!
During an exciting Lightning Talk at Demuxed, Juan Pablo Saibene took the stage to announce the Summer Camp 2025 projects kicking off in November! We’re excited to welcome our first confirmed campers: Steve Heffernan(Mux), Henry McIntyre (Vimeo), Casey Occhialini (Paramount), Jason Thibeault (SVTA), and Juan Manuel López Gargiulo (castLabs).
This year’s focus will be on two ambitious, community-selected projects:
-
MoQ Player Implementation – Technical sponsored by Mike English (Id3as), building a low-latency player to handle adaptive bitrate formats.
-
VAST to SGAI Conversion Service – Technical sponsored by David Hassoun (Dolby Laboratories), streamlining ad insertion for HLS environments.
With these exciting projects in motion and an incredible lineup of campers, we’re more than ready to dive into what promises to be an unforgettable edition of Summer Camp. The first kickoff meetings are set for early November, stay tuned to our channels for updates!

We left San Francisco with immense happiness and pride, new ideas, and exciting projects on the horizon. With the incredible support of our partners and community, we’re ready to dive headfirst into Summer Camp 2025.
This edition promises to be nothing short of extraordinary and we can't wait to get started!
